Teletherapy - Telehealth - Online Therapy
Teletherapy is a time saving, convenient, and efficient way of receiving speech therapy services from the comfort of your home. Speech therapists can provide high-quality care at a time that works best for you or your family. Telehealth can be a great solution for parents who do not live close to a clinic or find commutes take up too much time.
Teletherapy Facts:
It is just as effective and feels the same as in-person visits
Family and caregiver involvement is increased, which in-turn helps them outside of therapy sessions
Evaluations can also be performed online
Your insurance may cover services provided
All you need is internet, a camera, and a computer or tablet
What to Expect in a Teletherapy Session:
Prior to the session, the therapist may send you a short “lesson plan” and list of items suggested for the session
For an infant or toddler, the therapist will demonstrate new activities or techniques and coach the parent through them. For a preschooler, plan to sit next to your child on the floor or at the table and work together closely with the therapist. School age children, depending on their goals, may be able to work independently through the session. However, the parent should remain nearby for assistance. For adults, depending on the diagnosis they may need a caregiver near by. Your therapist will let you know if you know if supervision or participation is necessary.
The therapist is able to share her screen, play games, share handouts, resources and more throughout the session from her computer.
At the end of the session, the therapist will discuss how to continue the session activities throughout the week, answer any questions you may have, and schedule the next visit.
How to get the most out of your session:
